The University of Gothenburg is proud to be a partner in this year's West Pride, set to take place in Gothenburg from 28 May to 1 June. Staff and students will join in the Rainbow Parade on 1 June, while the Academy of Music and Drama's Artisten building will open its doors for lectures and panel discussions on 30 May.

"West Pride is based on a vision of an equal and inclusive world, free of prejudice and discrimination," says Helena Lindholm Schulz, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and head of equality and equal opportunities work at the university. "At a time when xenophobia and homophobia are gaining ground in Europe, it is vital that we as a university stand up for equal rights for everyone."

Staff and students alike are invited to join in the Rainbow Parade: meet outside the entrance to HDK at 12.30 pm on 1 June for a 2 pm start from Götaplatsen, after which the parade will head along Avenyn to Brunnsparken and then on to Drottningtorget before finishing at Trädgårdsföreningen.

On Friday 30 May the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology team up to present lectures and panel discussions centring on LGBT issues at the Academy of Music and Drama's Artisten building. Current research in a variety of areas will be presented under the heading of Research that makes a difference. Themes will include the use of the Swedish gender-neutral personal pronoun "hen" in scientific texts and in practice, ways of living with different lifestyles, the nerd in the heterosexual matrix, young men on gender and sexuality in the new Sweden, and desire between women in literature.
