Published

On February 15, 2024, participants, researchers and doctoral students, together with staff and students at the University of Gothenburg, gathered in the Faculty of Humanities auditorium to inaugurate the Graduate School FUDEM.

Introductory speeches by Olga Sasunkevich, FUDEM's scientific coordinator, and Lena Martinsson and Åsa Arping, Head of the Department of Cultural Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, respectively, commenced the afternoon's inauguration.

This was followed by a two-hour panel discussion featuring four prominent academics involved in the research school - Ulrika Dahl, Professor of Gender Studies, Uppsala University, Jenny Gunnarsson Payne, Professor of Ethnology, Södertörn University, Stefan Jonsson, Professor of Ethnic Studies, Linköping University, and Felicia Hägerbäck, PhD student in Gender Studies at FUDEM, Uppsala University. The talk was moderated by Ov Cristian Norocel, Associate Professor of Gender Studies, Lund University.

The scientific objective of FUDEM is to address some of the most critical social issues of our time through humanistic multidisciplinary research and education, starting with the concept of 'illiberal populism'. FUDEM brings together researchers and PhD students at the Department of Cultural Sciences, which is the school's hub, and five other universities in Sweden.
