The GNC is  delighted to announce that Professor Eva Billstedt has been awarded 2,134,000 Swedish krona in research funding from the Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture for the project 'Children with autism grow up.'

The project is a long-term follow-up of adults who were diagnosed with autism in childhood. Research on autism has primarily focused on childhood, adolescence, or young adulthood. Research on autism in middle age and older adulthood is very limited.

The purpose of the project is to increase knowledge about the well-being of this group in middle and upper middle age. There is a need to predict prognosis, identify healthcare needs, and assess the need for societal support in this group. The longitudinal study design, with already collected information from childhood and young adulthood, allows for the examination of development from childhood to middle age and the factors influencing this development.

The project is particularly interested in investigating comorbidity (psychiatric and somatic), well-being/life quality including employment, and healthcare needs.
