In this presentation, contemporary Russian literature published in Swedish translation will serve as a case for an analysis and discussion of the visibility of translators and translations in Swedish literary criticism. The material comprises 445 reviews of 82 first editions of contemporary Russian novels in Swedish translation. The current research questions will be in focus: Is the translated nature of the novel recognized by the critics? Is the translator mentioned in the review, and in that case: how? In which way does the critic comment on the quality of the translation? Is translation assessment more common in reviews of novels a) written by certain authors; b) translated by certain translators; or c) pertaining to certain genres (highbrow or popular genres)?
