Through collaborations with photographers, artists and playwrights, sociologist and researcher Helena Holgersson has explored the role of art in shaping and communicating research and voices about the city and urban development. Mats Jönsson, professor of film history and Karl-Magnus Johansson, archivist, will speak about the role of film in understanding local identity, history and cultural heritage.

Helena Holgersson is a sociologist and researcher on urban transformation and gentrification. She has collaborated with artists on several studies, such as playwright Mattias Andersson and photographer Katarina Despotovic, and will talk about how this has informed her analysis and enabled her to reach people outside the university.

Karl-Magnus Johansson is Senior Archivist at the National Archives in Gothenburg, where he is responsible for promoting knowledge about the archives. He is the author of several articles on archive history and the editor of two international anthologies where archival theory meets contemporary art: Communicating the Archive: Physical Migration (2013) and Inscription (2018), as well as the film studies anthology Filmens Göteborg - traces, experiences and results from a collaborative research project (2021).

Mats Jönsson is Professor of Film Studies at the Department of Cultural Studies and Director of GPS400: Centre for Collaborative Visual Research at the University of Gothenburg. He has written three monographs, edited eight anthologies and is a regular international publisher.  His media history research focuses on the historiographical, didactical and heritage functions of lens media in the 20th century.

The talk is part of the Röhsska Architecture Days 2022.
