Presentation
Salma is a PhD candidate at JMG who started her doctoral studentship position in January 2021. She holds a joint master’s degree in Journalism, Media and Globalisation from University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and Aarhus University, Denmark. She also has a BA in Journalism from Institut Supérieur de l’Information et la Communication, Rabat. Salma is a former multimedia journalist and multilingual news producer with nearly ten years of work experience in several international media companies and different countries including: Senegal (BBC Afrique), United Kingdom (BBC World News) and Qatar (AJ+/Aljazeera).
Research interests
Salma’s research interests include Journalism and social media research, identity construction, political communication, populism and its overall implications on society. She has also a specific interest in research areas that involve visuals (visual political communication and visual culture).
Current research project
Her research project focuses on visual communication strategies, right-wing politics and security as a populist pledge.
