About Daniel Rydbeck
I work as a colorectal surgeon at the surgical department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital/ Östra in Gothenburg.
For my PhD studies, I am affiliated to the Department of surgery, Institute of clinical sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University. I work within the research group SSORG (Scandinavian Surgical Outcomes Research Group). Main supervisor is Eva Angenete, professor of surgery. Co-supervisors are Eva Haglind, professor of surgery, and David Bock, assistant professor of epidemiology.
Research topic: Colorectal cancer
One ongoing project investigates non-operative treatment of rectal cancer in a national prospective multicenter study, in patients with a very good response to preoperative radiotherapy, also known as watch-and-wait.
Another project studies the impact of waiting time from diagnosis of colorectal cancer to start of treatment, on overall survival.
In collaboration with pre-clinical colleagues, we also have an ongoing project investigating immunological response in tumor tissue, as a possible predictive marker for response to preoperative treatment with radiotherapy (with or without chemotherapy), aiming at a more tailored treatment for individual patients.
In my clinical work, my focus is on robotically-assisted surgery for rectal cancer, and transanal minimally-invasive surgery.
