Marie Rusner är adjungerad universitetslektor på institutionen för vårdvetenskap och hälsa, Sahlgrenska Akademin, Göteborgs Universitet. Hon är också forskningschef på Södra Älvsborgs Sjukhus, Borås. Marie är sjuksköterska, specialiserad inom psykiatrisk vård. Hon är filosofie doktor i vårdvetenskap. Titeln på avhandlingen från 2012 är: Bipolär sjukdom - ur ett existentiellt perspektiv.
Hennes forsknings handlar framförallt om långvarig psykisk ohälsa som bipolär sjukdom och depression.
Marie´s bidrag till Childbirth Research Group är att skapa kunskap om sexualitet och barnafödande i relation till allvarlig psykisk sjukdom och till kvinnor som lever med HIV. Ett doktorandprojekt har resulterat i en avhandling av Ewa Carlsson Lallo: Sexuality in women living with HIV.
