Humans and our ancestors have had a disproportionate impact on Earth’s biodiversity. But what is the baseline for pre-human biodiversity, or is there one? What drives patterns of extinction in a human-dominated world? And what can we learn from the ongoing changes as we move forward into a major biodiversity crisis?
