Päivi Palojoki is new visiting professor in nutrition science

The Finnish researcher Päivi Palojoki has been appointed as visiting professor in home economics and nutrition science as part of the strategic programme for investing in research at the Faculty of Education.

Päivi Palojoki is professor in pedagogy at the University of Helsinki and the head of the research group Food, Culture and Learning at the same university. Her research focuses on subject-didactic questions related to the teaching and learning of home economics within various cultural settings and school levels, ranging from comprehensive school to higher education. She is especially interested in formal teaching and learning situations, such as in the classroom, but also examines informal learning environments such as homes or NGOs.

Päivi Palojoki has been appointed as a visiting professor at the Department of Food and Nutrition and Sport Science from January 1 2021 and three years ahead.

"I will contribute to the Faculty by promoting national and international research co-operation, participation in discussions on the latest research findings, tutoring doctoral students and post-doc researchers, as well as organizing expert meetings and seminars", says Päivi Palojoki.

Earlier cooperation

The Department of Food and Nutrition and Sport Science is familiar to Päivi Palojoki. She has been a visiting professor here before and have co-operated with the University of Gothenburg in several projects.

"Professor Palojoki has a long-standing and profound expertise in home economics and will be able to enrich our research environment at the department with unique knowledge and experience. That is necessary for our ability to realize the strategic investment in research and doctoral students we are planning for", says Frode Slinde, Head of the Department of Food and Nutrition and Sport Science.
