Funding for project on labour and social integration in Biskopsgården

Published

On 18th April 2018 the Committee for the School of Business Economics and Law’s Jubilee Fund decided to award a grant of 96 182 SEK to Robin Biddulph, researcher in Human Geography at the University of Gothenburg for the project "How do small business contribute to social sustainability through integration in disadvantaged urban areas? Getting beyond ‘opportunity’ and ‘necessity’ entrepreneurship in Biskopsgården".

This project will involve case studies of a small sample of small businesses in Biskopsgården, exploring whether, and in what ways, employment in these businesses has led to either labour integration or a more broadly defined social integration for current and former employees resident in Biskopsgården. This work will build on relationships established with the School’s “Organising Integration” research programme led by Professor Barbra Czarniawska and Dr Andreas Diedrich and will involve direct collaboration with Dr Maria Jose Zapata Campos. The research will be conducted during autumn 2018 and spring 2019 and is seen as preliminary to a more substantive engagement. It constitutes a response to calls in the development geography literature for issues of uneven development to be examined not only in the global South but also the global North.
