Michael Karlsson swapped the hot dog stand for a restaurant on Tjärnö
Michael Karlsson – also known as Körv-Micke – started working as a chef in the Tjärnö Laboratory's restaurant in April. In his spare time, he builds box bikes and paints pictures. Michael is standing in for Mathias Karlsson, who is trying out other work.
What are you going to do here?
"I'm going to work as a chef. Since I started a few months ago, I realize that there is a lot for me to learn from my talented colleagues about how the food is prepared here. We are a lovely bunch who laugh a lot together."
What did you do before?
"During my school years, I trained as a welder and then worked at gas refineries in Norway. I was also involved in constructing the tallest buildings in Oslo. For a decade, I was a third-generation hot dog stand owner, and then became known to many in Strömstad as "Körv-Micke". In addition to working in restaurants, I have also taught pensioners and children how to cook and held courses for grilling in the garden."
What do you like to do in your free time?
"In our family with my wife and three adult children, we have a strong sense of unity. I often cook for and with them. Kalaswiener sausages, semolina sausages and lamb sausages are some favorites. I also build box bikes for sale in my spare time."
Something else you want to share?
"I like to paint and have had exhibitions together with one of my daughters."
