I am a postdoctoral researcher working on projects within solid state triplet-triplet annihilation. Having graduated from the University of Hull, earning a degree in chemistry with honors in 2016. I later earned a PhD degree in chemistry from the University of Birmingham in 2021, with a thesis on the subject of photoactive iridium(iii) complexes, under the supervision of Professor Zoe Pikramenou. After working as a postdoctoral researcher for Professor Karl Börjesson at the University of Gothenburg, I was awarded a MSCA postdoctoral fellowship to remain at the same institution. My current research interests focus on chemical synthesis of photoactive molecules, and further studying their utility in triplet–triplet annihilation upconversion systems.
Recently I have been working on the Marie Curie funded project SOLIDUPCONVERSION (101063676) in which we aim to fabricate a material that enables efficient solar energy harvesting at low photon energies. I will employ novel organometallic sensitisers that allow for low energy harvesting. These sensitisers will be incorporated into an active host matrix that replaces molecular diffusion, with triplet exciton diffusion. This is a novel realisation of energy transfer in the solid state and will circumvent current limitations in solid state upconversion.
