Short description

The Objectivity Laboratory: Experimental Documentary Photography in Times of Post-Truth applies practice-based research to explore contemporary perspectives in documentary photography. Important to the research is the idea of a present “post-truth” moment (of crisis) that raises questions in relation to fact, truth and reality in arts.

How can/do artists speak, act and picture from ethically thoughtful positions when engaging with urgenciexs and complexities in contemporary society? The idea of situated objectivity is explored as productive in the analysis and formulation of new theoretical perspectives for documentary photography. What possibilities arise if a renegotiation of the historically problem-ridden and authoritarian idea of objectivity is undertaken, in the pursuit of ethical approaches and applicable documentary methods?
