Short description

Demographic changes with an increasing proportion of older people has led to a need for an extended working life. Three reasons are often cited for this: to ensure a sustainable pension system, to ensure availability of labor and the effective use of the human capital that older workers possess, and to contribute to the welfare of older people. These goals require changing practices of employers and workplaces, to meet and participate in the changes taking place at the policy and individual level. The problem is the lack of systematic knowledge about how such changes can be implemented within organizations. The aim of this project is to address this lacuna and specifically study the conditions and practices in workplaces that inhibit and promote the retention of employees beyond the previous norm for age of retirement.
