Short description

The project will create an agrarian history database of the arable land area in Sweden between 1810 and 1870, the era of “the agrarian revolution”. The arable land area provide important information on land use and production, which can be used in a range of subject areas: sustainable development, climate research, environment protection, economic history research and more. There are official statistics on the topic to be found from the beginning of the 1800s and onwards. However, the official statistics have been deemed unreliable. The remaining best opportunity to calculate the arable land area is instead contemporary enclosure acts. By systematising information given in this material, the arable land area can be calculated at härad (a jurisdictional district) level. The project will result in a national database freely available.
