The School of Business, Economics and Law re-accredited by EQUIS

Published

The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg has once again been assessed by an international review team and received a renewed five-year re-accreditation by EQUIS. The School has had this prestigious international recognition of excellence since 2004. High quality and continuous quality development are prerequisites for accreditation.

The reviewers gave overall very positive feedback about the School’s performance and how it has developed over the past five years. The integration of sustainability throughout the School’s operations and the good relations with the surrounding society are highlighted as particular strengths.

“The EQUIS re-accreditation for another five years is a confirmation of our position as a business school at the international forefront. It strengthens our reputation but, most importantly, the process of re-accreditation through peer review spurs us on with our continuous quality improvement going forward. In 2023 we are celebrating our centennial anniversary and will continue to develop the School into the future,” says Per Cramer, Dean, School of Business, Economics and Law.

International system of quality assessment

EQUIS is the leading international system of quality assessment, improvement and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration. EQUIS is managed and run by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and its fundamental objective is to raise the standard of management education worldwide. Institutions that are accredited by EQUIS must demonstrate not only high general quality in all dimensions of their activities, but also a high degree of internationalisation and close connections to business and society. Ethics, responsibility, and sustainability are also important parameters. Accreditation is given for three or five years and today there some 200 EQUIS-accredited higher education institutions in the world.

The School of Business, Economics and Law accredited since 2004

The first EQUIS accreditation was obtained in 2004 and since then the School of Business, Economics and Law has been reviewed and re-accredited several times. The School is also accredited by The Association of MBAs (AMBA) and The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and thus since 2016 (first in Sweden) one of about 100 business schools in the world that is what is usually called "Triple Crown" accredited.

The accreditations are valuable proof that the School of Business, Economics and Law's education, research and collaboration maintain a high quality in an international perspective, and that the School continues to develop in line with demands of society and the challenges facing the world today. The accreditations strengthen the School's brand and provides a reliable indication of quality that is important in the recruitment of students. In many cases, it is also a prerequisite for being able to cooperate with the best business schools in the world. More information about EQUIS: www.efmdglobal.org
