About Staffan Larsson

Staffan Larsson is Professor of Computational Linguistics at the University of Gothenburg. His research areas include dialogue and dialogue systems (conversational AI), semantic coordination in dialogue, language and perception, language and cognition, pragmatics, formal semantics and philosophy of language.

Staffan Larsson has participated in several international projects funded by the EU. In these projects, he led the development of a toolbox for research on dialogue systems based on the idea of modeling dialogue as updating an information state. He has also developed a dialogue system that is being commercialized by Ordström AI, where Larsson is one of the founders.

In recent years, Larsson has researched semantic coordination in dialogue, i.e. the processes and protocols we use to ensure that we mean the same things with our words and which thereby enable linguistic communication. He has also researched how language is connected to perception and how words can refer to a shared reality.

He is a member of the steering group of CLASP (Centre for Linguistic Theory and Studies in Probability), and co-founder of Ordström AI. He teaches dialogue systems at MLT (Master in Language Technology), an international master's program in language technology. He is co-editor of the Journal of Logic and Computation and a member of the editorial board of the journal Dialogue and Discourse.

He is also co-founder of Ordström AI, a company building "AI Voice agents you can Trust". He is co-editor of the Journal of Logic and Computation (Language Corner) and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal Dialogue and Discourse
