About Volha/ Olga Sasunkevich

Olga (Volha) Sasunkevich holds her PhD in History of Eastern Europe from University of Greifswald (Germany) and Master in Cultural Studies (with specialization in Gender Studies) from European Humanities University (Vilnius, Lithuania). Before coming to University of Gothenburg, she worked as a lecturer at the Department of Media at European Humanities University in Vilnius and co-ordinated the work of the Centre for Gender Studies there. In 2015 she published monograph “Informal Trade, Gender and the Border Experience: from Political Borders to Social Boundaties” (Ashgate/Routledge 2015). In 2014 Association for Women in Slavic Studies (AWSS) awarded her with a Graduate Essay Prize for a dissertation chapter, entitled "Shuttle Trade and Gender Relations: Female World in a Provincial Border Town". She was also a co-creator of a toolkit “Eliminating Gender Illiteracy” (in Russian, 2013) aimed at integrating feminist and LGBT*-agenda into the work of NGOs in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. Together with Mia Liinason she will work on the project Spaces of Resistance dedicated to feminist and LGBT*-movements in contemporary Russia, Scandinavia and Turkey.
