Johan Severinsson will study how algae affect eelgrass
As a new doctoral student in the research group Zorro, Johan Severinsson will investigate how algal mats affect the recovery and restoration of eelgrass meadows.
What are you going to work with here?
- I will work in the Zorro group with algal mats consisting of perennial algae, such as bladder wrack, toothed wrack and agar algae. These algal mats are problematic as they counteract the recovery and restoration of eelgrass. Among other things, I will examine their origin and movements, but also their ecology.
What did you do before?
– I have previously studied at Lund University where I took my master's degree in aquatic ecology. My master's thesis investigated the connections between eelgrass, sediment and biodiversity, and after that I continued working on the same project as a research assistant. Since then, I have worked as an environmental consultant, especially with sampling of all different types of aquatic environments, such as oceans, streams, lakes, pools and drinking water.
What do you do in your spare time?
– In my free time I'm running and I also play card games. Then I am also busy right now meeting old friends, now that I have moved back to Gothenburg.
Anything else you would like to share?
– I look forward to working at the University of Gothenburg and hope to meet many fun colleagues in the future.
