Open House 2025
During the Open House on 28 November, we invite all those who are curious about what we do, and what it’s like to study at HDK-Valand! You are welcome to visit us on Vasagatan and Kristinelundsgatan in Gothenburg, or to participate in the English, digital events.
Welcome to meet our teachers, students and programme supervisors who will tell you all about our international BFA and MFA programmes. On our Open House you can also go on guided tours, visit our students in their open studios and talk to our guidance counselor.
Three of our BFA programmes are taught in English; Metal art, Wood Oriented Furniture Design and Crafting Futures. Teachers and students from these programs, which are located at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed, will come the Open House in Gothenburg and tell you about the programmes and their study environment.
For more detailed information about our international programmes, we offer digital presentations about our BFA's 13 November and digital presentations about our MFA's 11–12 November. On 17 December we will also offer a session where we describe how to apply to our programmas at HDK-Valand.

Lina Petersson the programme director for the MFA programme in Crafts will give an introduction to the programme and its three specializations: Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art, Textile Art

Exhibitions and workshops
Throughout the day there are a number of exhibitions in both buildings. Follow the signs or ask one of our entrance hosts to find your way.
At Kristinelundsgatan 6-8
Exhibition: Students from the master programme in Embedded Design exhibits the process and results from the automated semester.

Exhibition: The craft programs showcase student works from their three disciplines: Textile Art, Jewellery Art, and Ceramic Art.
Location: Kristinelundsgatan 6-8, Room 505
Exhibition: Second-year students from the Bachelor's programme in Design present material from their course Explorative Design Practice.
Over six weeks, students have explored and developed personal design methods based on their own inner drive.
The course ends with each student creating a guide that reflects on their process and the knowledge gained along the way.

Exhibition: Thurees Obenza, student from the course EAT! will be exhibiting Reframing Perspectives: Still Life, Still Good - a series of playful still-life photographs featuring fruits, vegetables, and bread from "Rädda Maten" bags, celebrating the overlooked beauty and value of food worth saving.

Workshop: Students from the course EAT! invite you to a workshop exploring food waste — welcome to challenge your senses!

About the course: EAT! is one of HDK-Valand’s independent courses, aimed at those who want to explore the relationship between design and eating through hands-on work with food culture, concepts, and design methods.

At Vasagatan 50
Exhibition: Welcome to the exhibition of the first year of the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme! In the exhibition we show works from our first months on the programme. Lift available.
Location: Vasagatan 50, Floor 5.
Exhibition: Second-year students from the Bachelor's programme in Photography present their work in a group exhibition.
The exhibition features projects created during the autumn semester. In addition to inspirational lectures and study visits, the course has included seminars with group critiques, individual supervision, and a number of workshops.

About the galleries: Monitor and Rotor are part of HDK-Valand’s student-run gallery spaces.

Exhibition: Welcome to explore works by a few first-year students from the Master’s programme in Photography. If you are interested in the MFA Programme in Photography, program director Åsa Stjerna will be present and answer your questions about the programme?

Open studios: The students in the Bachelor's and Master's programme in Fine Arts open up their studios, welcome to peek into student work and ask questions.
Time: 10.00–12.00 & 13.00–15.00.

Guided tours and student counselling
Tours
Throughout the day, there will be guided tours where our students will show you around the building. If you are part of a larger group, or if you have any special interests, please book the tour in advance. Email your requests to: public@hdk-valand.gu.se. The tours are given in both Swedish and English and takes about 30-45 minutes.
Information about studying and admission
In addition to the teaching staff, many members of our support services will be available to answer questions about admissions, exchange studies, the support available for academic studies, and more. Feel free to talk to one of our administrators or academic advisors.
Open workshops
For those of you who are curious about our workshops, they are open and most of our valued and knowledgeable technicians are on hand to show you around the equipment and machinery. You can also check out the students' different study environments and browse books in our outstanding artlibrary.
