Catching the White Fish: gossip and cocaine on Colombia’s Northern Pacific coast
Society and economy
Nicolás Acosta García’s research focuses on the effects on development and biodiversity conservation on local, afro-descendant and indigenous people. What is life like after drift-cocaine arrives in a village on Colombia’s Northern Pacific coast? Drift-cocaine is a side-effect of the interdiction of drug transport boats heading towards Central and North America as part of the US-Colombian War on Drugs. The seminar will discuss the effects and relations that emerge from an ocean turned into an amphitheatre of fishing livelihoods, drug traffickers, and military operations.
