About Megan Rådesjö

Presentation

I hold a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with a focus on Educational Science at the Department of Sociology and Work Science. My research is grounded in feminist sociology and contemporary critical theory and centers on questions of power, intersectionality, gender, gender equality, and social justice.

I have an interdisciplinary educational background. I hold an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from San Antonio College, with a focus on journalism and political science, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where I double-majored in Sociology and Political Science. I also earned a Master’s degree from the University of Gothenburg through the International Master’s Programme in Educational Research. In addition to my doctoral work, I have contributed to several research projects and collaborations.

Research interests

I study how power relations are maintained and challenged through everyday power dynamics. Drawing on feminist and critical theoretical perspectives, I analyze how opposition and resistance become possible in professional and organizational contexts.

My research is primarily qualitative and ethnographically oriented. I have analyzed policy, work within the welfare state, gender equality work, as well as how antifeminism and antigender opposition shape professional practices. I have also contributed to methodological development in research interviewing and theories of opposition, queer theory, and feminist theories of relational power.

I am co-coordinator of the Feminist Seminar in Sociology (FEMSEM) at the department and co-founder and co-coordinator of the Gender and Intersectionality research network within the Swedish Sociological Association’s conference Sociologidagarna.

Teaching experience

I teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels within sociology, European Studies, teacher education, preschool teacher education, and psychology. My teaching includes lectures, seminars, workshops, course development, and I have been a course coordinator. I have taught topics such as gender, racialization, feminist theory, feminist politics and movements, and qualitative methods, including policy analysis, interviews, and observation. I also supervise Bachelor’s and Master's theses across disciplines related to my research areas.
