Choral Conducting

This information applies to applications for the Master of Fine Arts in Music with a Specialization in Choral Conducting. The next applications period is from 16 March 2026 to 15 April 2026. Studies start in the autumn of 2026.

The Master's programme in Choral Conducting includes training in music from various traditions, with a focus on Western choral music. The programme is delivered at part-time studies over four semesters, providing a total of 60 study credits.

With more than half a million people participating in 15,000 choirs, there is a great need for well-trained choir leaders and choral conductors in Sweden. The programme will prepare you to lead choral singing in diverse contexts for both children and young people and for adult singers.

The programme provides the opportunity to develop and deepen your musical expertise and to reflect on your own artistry. You will also have the potential to grow in your role as a leader; working with people and promoting their learning is an important part of the programme. As part of the training, you will also learn how the Swedish choral profession works and become familiar with key organisations.

The programme consists of seminars, lectures and group exercises, but there are also placements and independent projects. You are able to customise your education by choosing subjects, such as piano accompaniment, arrangement and vocal training for choir leaders.
