Asthma and Allergic Diseases
Asthma and allergic diseases are among the most common chronic conditions worldwide. Millions of people with these conditions struggle with symptoms that restrict breathing, limit activity, and diminish overall well-being. At the University of Gothenburg, researchers study the causes, mechanisms, and treatment of asthma and allergic diseases across the lifespan.
Our research
By combining clinical studies, experimental research, and population-based investigations, our work aims to improve diagnosis, prevention, and personalized therapies—ultimately reducing the burden of these conditions on individuals and society.
Our research focuses on understanding how the immune system differs among people with various types of asthma to uncover new treatment targets and diagnostic biomarkers. Our approach integrates epidemiological data, clinical characteristics, and mechanistic studies using cell samples taken from people with asthma and COPD. Studies of asthma in mice also help us understand the biological processes driving the disease, which guides the development of new treatments.
