VitKrit
A seminar on decoloniality at the University of Gothenburg.
VitKrit (WhiteCrit) is a seminar and researcher network to which employees and students within all academic disciplines at the University of Gothenburg are welcome.
Our overall aim is to provide a forum for critical thinking and scholarly discussion of phenomena related to colonialism and racism. VitKrit’s activities are mainly held in Swedish, but we also have the capacity to include other languages in our activities.

Identifying and making colonial processes visible and their significance in relation to how knowledge about the world is established and reproduced is a focus of this network’s readings and discussions. Concepts such as ‘race’ and ‘whiteness’ are examples of social constructs that the network problematises.
As a rule, our discussions are based on humanities, artistic and educational perspectives that focus on aesthetic, philosophical and historical contexts. Our goal is to identify and discuss decolonising processes in dialogue with indigenous and other colonised science from different times and places.
The main activities organised by the network are guest lectures, seminars on texts, and working seminars. The guest lectures aim to present a decolonial or race- and whiteness-critical perspectives on knowledge production, historical and social phenomena, or different kinds of media and forms of artistic expression.
At the seminars on texts, we discuss key texts within the aforementioned theoretical fields. At working seminars, we present our work in progress within the network for the network’s critical review. The network also participates in third stream arrangements with actors such as the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (GIBCA) and the Museum of World Culture.
The Department of Languages and Literatures (SPL), the Department of Literature, History of Ideas, and Religion (LIR), the Department of Education, Communication and Learning (IPKL) and the Unit for Pedagogical Development and Interactive Learning (PIL) are the organisers of VitKrit.
