Application to the Graduate School CUL

In collaboration with the Artistic Faculty, the Faculties of Science and Technology, Social Sciences, and Education at the University of Gothenburg, the Graduate School CUL offers doctoral-level education for those holding a teaching degree.

Doctoral studies within the CUL graduate school

Application period: 31 October 2025 – 30 January 2026

The University of Gothenburg offers doctoral education for those holding a teaching degree. The education is conducted within the framework of the CUL Graduate School (Centre for Educational Science and Teacher Research), in collaboration with the Faculties of Humanities, Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, Science and Engineering, Social Sciences, and Education.

Subjects and placement

CUL announces two types of admission for the 2026 intake:

  • Admission with employment as a doctoral student at the University of Gothenburg.

    Ten doctoral positions are available for admission in the subjects listed below, where CUL covers both educational and salary costs.
    Doctoral positions for applicants with a teaching degree
     
  • Admission with external funding, where your current employer covers the salary costs during the study period.

    Four (or more) collaborative positions are available for admission in the subjects listed below, where CUL covers educational costs and the collaborating partner covers salary costs.

Subjects

  • Aesthetic practices with a focus on educational science
  • Humanities with a focus on educational science
  • Sport science, specialisation in physical education and health
  • Information technology and learning
  • Food and nutrition, specialisation in home and consumer studies
  • Mathematics with a focus on educational science
  • Natural science with a focus on educational science
  • Educational work
  • Social sciences with an educational science orientation

For the collaborative positions, admission is also possible in Child and youth studies and Subject-matter education (with various specialisations).
