Geoff Thompson Young Scholar Bursary
The Geoff Thompson Young Scholar Bursary is given in honour of Geoff Thompson’s significant contributions to Systemic Functional Linguistics. At each European SFL conference, the European SFL Association sponsors a bursary, which provides support for a young scholar whose conference paper shows exceptional scholarship within Systemic Functional Linguistics.
For the conference in Gothenburg this year, we will cover the registration costs (reimbursing you if you have already registered) and the conference dinner.
Those eligible (see below) and who would like to be considered for the bursary should submit an application for the bursary, which should include:
- The title and abstract of your paper as submitted (as a .doc/.docx; please anonymise),
- A brief summary (no more than 300 words; anonymised; again, as a .doc/.docx) explaining how your conference paper contributes to work within SFL, and
- Proof of current Ph.D. (or other, earlier study) status, or proof of having completed your PhD in the previous two years
Applications should be submitted at the following Google Forms: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScnddkf0pIhyshcQXOLxRAWW-TJxXCWwJP0U6WcOPdgEFzW2g/viewform?usp=publish-editor
Applications should be submitted by the end of the day Monday 8th June.
The European SFL Committee will review all eligible applications and select which young scholar will receive the bursary. A subsequent email will be sent to all applicants regarding the outcome approximately the middle of June.
