Data – for open and accessible marine science
Data builds knowledge. As part of the Skagerak Facility, the research vessel R/V Skagerak collects high-quality data during every expedition, using advanced sensors and instruments. This information is crucial for understanding ocean dynamics – and we are actively working to make it as open and accessible as possible.
A comprehensive data management strategy for the Skagerak Facility is currently under development. Our aim is to make all collected data freely available via a scientific data server (ERDDAP), where researchers and other users can easily search for and download information.
In the longer term, the Skagerak Facility plans to deliver data to Sweden’s National Oceanographic Data Centre (SMHI), enabling further distribution to international data repositories. In doing so, we contribute to a more coordinated and accessible marine knowledge base – both nationally and globally.
