Research
Research in science and technology aims to tackle major global challenges and contribute to a sustainable and better future. Through our basic and applied research, we develop innovative and sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the environment.
Science encompasses everything from the smallest particle to the infinite universe. Scientific research constantly advances our understanding of people and our environment, with the aim of creating a better place to live − locally and globally. Our activities span a wide range of fields − from basic science to applications in areas such as the environment, climate, life sciences and biodiversity.
In IT, we conduct research ranging from abstract mathematics and high-tech applications to studies of the impact of digitalisation on society. We look at both man and technology and strive to contribute to innovative solutions to global challenges, along with perspectives on the effects of IT use on individuals, organisations and society.
The University of Gothenburg is one of the leaders in Europe in marine research, and several major international research collaborations are led from here.
Unique to the country is research in conservation, where subjects with interdisciplinary links to the humanities, social sciences, art and architecture are studied from a natural science perspective. Research in crafts is conducted in close cooperation with the Crafts Laboratory, which collects knowledge in the field.
In IT, physics, mathematics and chemistry, there is extensive collaboration with Chalmers. In the life sciences, there is close collaboration with Sahlgrenska Academy and Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
