About us
The Sahlgrenska Academy is the medical faculty at the University of Gothenburg. We educate doctors, nurses, dentists, and a range of in-demand healthcare professionals.
We are open to collaborations that help us gain new perspectives and find better ways to prevent and treat ill health. We have international research at the absolute forefront. Examples of successful research areas include aging, person-centered care, cancer, metabolism, neuroscience, obstetrics, dentistry, vaccines, and virology. Our research and education primarily take place on the campus shared with healthcare, especially at the hospitals within Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
We are in a development phase where our main campus, Medicinareberget, is becoming the center for the university's activities in Life Science. Historically, our research has led to major advancements, such as dental implants, beta blockers for heart failure, and Losec, the world's best-selling drug.
We are particularly proud of our Nobel laureate Arvid Carlsson, who developed his discoveries on the important role of dopamine in the brain at Medicinareberget campus.
