The WCMTM yearly kick-off is a chance for all the WCMTM Gothenburg research groups to connect, learn, and share ideas. With the aim to strengthen our community, we invite you to this two-day conference.

Program
The program includes inspirational talks both from our own researchers as well as from invited guests speakers. There will also be time for group tasks and time to get to know each other. Marstrand offers historical sites and beautiful sea side - which we hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy. You can find an overview below and more details in the PDF.

J. Gustav Smith, Director of WCMTM. Gustav is professor of cardiology at the department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, and Chief Physician at the Sahlgrenska university hospital. His research is mainly focused on molecular epidemiology.
Margit Mahlapuu, Co-Director of WCMTM. Margit is also professor of molecular genetics at the Faculty of Science. She leads a research group focusing on type 2 diabetes and has experience from C-level management in drug discovery and development.

09.15 Career Paths in Academy and Industry: Conference room Blå rummet (next to reception on bottom floor)
Li-ming Gan, CEO of Ribocure Pharmaceuticals AB. Li-ming is a physician scientist and has previously 20 years of pharma experience from AstraZeneca. Academically Li-ming holds a part-time position as professor and Chief physician at the department of cardiology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg.
Julia Grönros, Project Director External Innovation at Ribocure Pharmaceuticals AB. Julia holds a MSc in biology and a PhD in physiology at University of Gothenburg. Her research interest is within cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction, as well as type 2 diabetes. Julia previosly worked at WCMTM as responsible research coordinator.
Li-Ming and Julia will tell us about their work and be part of a panel discussion toghether with WCMTM Fellows: Aishe Sarshad, Cristina Maglio, Erik Smedler, Björn Burmann, and Lina Bergman.

10.45 Guest speaker:
Richard Neutze, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Gothenburg. Richard’s group uses X-rays generated at synchrotrons and at X-ray free electron lasers to probe structural changes in membrane proteins. Membrane proteins are a very diverse class of proteins that control energy transduction and signalling processes in living organisms. Richard took his PhD in physics in 1995 from the University of Canterbury (New Zealand).
