Meet HDK-Valand

Here you can explore upcoming and ongoing digital presentations of our bachelor’s and master’s programmes. From 11–13 November, we invite you to Meet HDK-Valand – three days of online sessions where you can meet teachers, students and alumni from our international programmes. All webinars are held in English and require advance registration.

12 Nov: Master's

14:00 Meet the MFA programme in Design 

Meet Mattias Gunnarsson, Programme Director, who will introduce the MFA in Design – its structure, curriculum and application process.
The session will include a short presentation followed by an open dialogue, where participants are welcome to raise questions and discuss issues related to design practice and study at HDK-Valand.

15:00 – Meet the MFA programme in Fine Art 

Meet Jason E. Bowman, Programme Director, and Vanja Qvarfordt, recent graduate of the programme (2024). Jason will present the MFA in Fine Art, discussing the curriculum, how the programme operates and the application process. Vanja will share her experience as a recent graduate and how the studies influenced her artistic practice. There will be time for questions from participants.

Meet Jeff Kaller, Programme Coordinator, and Torsten Hild, Professor in Wood Oriented Furniture Design. They will introduce the MFA in Wood Oriented Furniture Design and share insights into studying at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed. The session covers the curriculum, application process and artistic environment, and offers a sense of what it’s like to be part of an international craft and design community. There will also be time for questions from participants.

13 Nov: Bachelor's

This year, our international bachelor’s programmes at Campus Steneby open for autumn applications for the very first time – with the deadline on 15 January.
Join us on 13 November to meet teachers and students from our English-taught programmes in Crafting Futures, Metal Art and Furniture Design, specialisation Wood.
Discover how these programmes connect craft, design and artistic exploration, and take the opportunity to ask your questions about studying and applying to HDK-Valand.

13:00 – Meet the BFA in Wood Oriented Furniture Design

Meet Sara Torsson Szyber, Lecturer in Furniture Design, who will introduce the BFA in Furniture Design, specialisation Wood, based at Campus Steneby. The session offers insight into how craft, form and sustainability come together in the programme, and how students develop their ideas in a creative and collaborative environment.
There will also be time for questions about the programme and application.

14:00 – Meet the BFA in Crafting Futures

Meet Karin Petersson, Senior Lecturer and teacher in Crafting Futures. This unique bachelor’s programme combines craft and design in an exploratory education where materials, techniques and society intersect. During the session, you’ll learn more about the programme’s structure and what it’s like to live and study creatively at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed. There will also be time for questions about the programme and portfolio requirements.

Meet Tobias Birgersson, Senior Lecturer in Metal Art, who will introduce the BFA in Metal Art at Campus Steneby. He will share insights into how material, technique and artistic expression come together in the programme, and give a sense of the vibrant craft and design community in Dals Långed. There will also be time for questions about the programme and application.

17 Dec: Applying to HDK-Valand

15.00-16.00 – How to apply and what it is like to study at HDK–Valand  
Join this online session on 17 December to learn about the application process and what it’s like to study at HDK-Valand. Together with our education officers, we’ll go through the steps of applying and the documents you’ll need to prepare.
We’ll also introduce the city of Gothenburg and student life here. For those interested in our programmes at Campus Steneby in Dals Långed, we’ll share images of this unique setting and explain how housing works there. 
The session will be hosted by education officers, international coordinators and study counsellors at HDK-Valand, who will be available to answer your questions.
