About Ida Björkman

Ida Björkman is an Associate Professor in Nursing and a Registered Nurse with specialist training in palliative care. She has clinical experience in hospice care and advanced home healthcare. In 2016, she completed her PhD with a dissertation on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), using both quantitative and qualitative methods to explore patients’ symptoms and experiences from a gender perspective.

Her research focuses on person-centred care, with particular interests in self-care, communication, person-centred interventions, patients’ experiences of symptoms, and gender/intersectionality and health. She has also conducted research in higher education pedagogy and in patient and public involvement (PPI) in research.

She has experience from international research projects and possesses broad methodological expertise, ranging from intervention research and statistical analyses to qualitative methodologies, including hermeneutics, narrative methods, content analysis, and discourse analysis. She has also published systematic literature reviews and meta-syntheses.
