Joan Martinez-Alier at the School of Global Studies

Joan Martinez-Alier was visiting professor at the School of Global Studies during 2011.

Professor Joan Martinez-Alier is active at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is internationally known for work in ecological economics and political ecology. Joan Marinez-Alier is a member of the editorial board of the international science journal Ecological Economics and coauthor of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity, which was launched at the UN meeting in Nagoya in October 2010.

During his visit, Professor Joan Martinez-Alier gave several lectures:

  • "Social Metabolism, Ecological Distribution Conflicts, Valuation Languages"
  • "Debates on socially sustainable economic degrowth"
  • "The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity"
  • "The EROI of agriculture, and the Via Campesina"
