History

Teaching and research in business administration have developed over more than 80 years in Gothenburg. Initially, this development took place at the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg (HHG). From the outset, HHG operated as an independent school of business, economics and law (1923–1961) before becoming a state institution (1962–1970).

In 1954, the University of Gothenburg established its own Department of Business Administration under the Faculty of Social Sciences. In 1971, the business administration activities at HHG were transferred to the Department of Business Administration at the University of Gothenburg, and operations at HHG were gradually phased out.

The School of Business, Economics and Law was re-established in 1996 with its own faculty at the University of Gothenburg. Today, the Department of Business Administration is one of six departments at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.
