About Mette Liljenberg

I am an Associate Professor of Education at the Department of Education and Special Education. I also serve as Deputy Head of Department with responsibility for collaboration and internationalization.

My research focuses on issues related to school leadership, organization, and development, as well as how leaders within school organizations learn and develop in their professional roles, both through collaboration with colleagues and through collaboration with researchers. In addition, I am interested in the shared work and responsibilities of school administrations and principals regarding the organization and management of quality assurance and school improvement efforts.

I teach within the National Principal Training Programme and in courses on educational leadership and school development, and I supervise doctoral candidates and students. I also collaborate with school authorities and education providers through various types of assignments and partnerships.

I am currently leading the research project (2022–2026), “Organization and Managing Quality and Improvement Work in Municipal School Administrations,” funded by the Swedish Research Council. I also participate in the research project “A Collaboration Model for Systematic Teaching Development and Collective Capacity Building,” a ULF-project focused on capacity building and learning in interconnected communities for school improvement.
