About Birgitta Romlin

Birgitta Romlin is Associate Professor and University Hospital Chief Physician, working at Pediatric Anesthesia-Paediatric Intensive Care Queen Silvia's Children's Hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital. She is also a researcher at the Institute of Clinical Sciences.


Thesis 2013 - Monitoring of coagulation and platelet function in paediatric cardiac surgery


Research areas:

  1. Coagulation and bleeding in connection with pediatric heart surgery, prevention and treatment

  2. Organ protection during and after cardiac surgery in children and in congenital/acquired heart diseases, circulatory optimization and treatment with inotropic drugs, neuromonitoring, optimization of heart-lung machine treatment

  3. Central venous access in children, studies of complications such as infections and thrombosis

  4. Prehospital treatment of hemorrhagic shock, coagulation disorders, transfusion strategies and prehospital treatment with whole blood

Birgitta Romlin is involved as a researcher at the Center for Disaster Medicine at the University of Gothenburg, a knowledge center on behalf of the National Board of Health and Welfare with a focus on total defence. The center conducts research, development and education in disaster medicine and healthcare
