About Anna Paganini

Research

Anna Paganini is an Associate Professor (Docent) in Nursing and Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, University of Gothenburg. Her research focuses on nursing in plastic surgery care, particularly related to breast reconstruction, as well as clinical surgical nursing and patient safety.

PhD Thesis Anna earned her PhD in Plastic Surgery on December 9, 2021; with the title Experiences of Living with Cleft Lip and Palate – a Gender Perspective Link to the thesis and link to abstract

Teaching

Anna teaches and supervises students at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, primarily within the Specialist Nursing Programme in Surgical Care. Together with Emma Hansson, she co-leads the PhD course SK00042 Scientific Writing Based on Text Functionality. She is also the author of the chapter Cleft Lip and Palate in the book Pediatric Nursing (Kristensson Hallström & Derwig [eds], 2023).

Clinical Work

Anna is a registered nurse with specialist training in paediatric and adolescent healthcare. She has over 20 years of experience at the Department of Plastic Surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, working as a ward nurse, surgery coordinator, and ward manager. She now works as a clinical developer, focusing on patient safety and quality improvement at unit and departmental levels. Since 2024, she also serves as project manager for the Director of Research and Innovation, Caterina Finizia (20%).
