Equitable Access to Healthcare and Health
Health and access to healthcare are unevenly distributed both globally and within countries. Socioeconomic factors, geography, and the organization of healthcare systems create differences in who receives access to high-quality care. At the same time, these inequalities raise important questions about governance, resource allocation, and fair priority-setting.
An equitable and accessible healthcare system is a cornerstone of the welfare state, yet healthcare faces growing challenges—from increasing inequality to difficulties in reaching marginalized groups. Globally, efforts are underway to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality care at an affordable cost (Universal Health Coverage). However, even within Sweden, substantial disparities remain depending on socioeconomic background, geography, and the organization of the healthcare system.
The Centre for Health Governance explores how healthcare system design and governance can promote more equitable access to care. The aim is to generate knowledge that can help reduce health disparities and support a fairer distribution of healthcare resources.
