About Max Thorsson

Max Thorsson (lic. physiotherapist) is a PhD student at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre (GNC) at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology.

Max's research is about developing and evaluating methods to objectively examine motor control and social interaction, that can be used in general, and in particular in individuals with ESSENCE problems. In his doctoral project, he developed a touchscreen-based motor coordination test and a dual-camera system to study eye movements.

His research on motor control has contributed to more knowledge about different complex functions, such as inhibitory control and flexibility, in children. He has also confirmed and extended several established theories concerning communication roles, eye gaze, and autistic traits in face-to-face interaction.

Research interests

Max's research interests delve deeply into understanding the intricacies of functions underlying social and motor coordination deficits. Drawing from his background in physiotherapy, his methodological development is rooted in movement analysis. Recognising that movement quality extends beyond mere outcomes, Max’s research emphasises the temporal aspects of execution. His goal is to leverage novel technologies to gain more insights into execution dynamics in a non-intrusive and encouraging way.
