Central - forest on mineral soils (umbrisol)

This site promotes biogeochemical/physiology forest ecosystem studies in relation to global change, process modelling and remote sensing.

Ecosystem

First generation of Norway spruce forest (60 years) after afforestation of agricultural land. The soil is drained, fertile and homogenous without any stones on top of an impermeable clay layer.

In 2022, a harvest occurred, where the largest part has been selectively harvested (diameter limit cutting), while a smaller part has been clearcutted.

Measurements

Net emissions of Greenhouse gases (CO2, H2O), water discharge and chemistry (outflow), sap-flow measurement of trees, spectral and phenological cameras.

Infrastructure

The site has electric power, fibre optic internet connection, boardwalks, water flow stations and a 38 m tower a with eddy covariance flux system and two heated profile systems (one for reactive gases and one for isotope studies).
