Variationist Sociolinguistics
Om utbildningen
The central part of the course consists of a practical assignment where you collect your own material which you then analyze and interpret. As a background, we study the historical context of sociolinguistics where William Labov and his innovations from the 1960s are treated as well as Labov's predecessors. We also study important current theories and methods, as well as the importance of variationist sociolinguistics to different empirical methods in linguistics, and its strengths and weaknesses.
This course is open to
