Translating Languages and Cultures

You will be provided with knowledge and an understanding of what
translating texts between different languages and cultures implies, and
you will be introduced to some of the basic concepts and theories in the
field of translation studies. You will also practice analysis of
translated texts on the basis of established methods within the
discipline. The translator's role in and responsibility for the design
of translations are also discussed as well as the function of
translations in society and their importance for cultural exchange. In
the course, you specialize in your main field of study by applying
different theories and methods to a material that is connected to the
language studied as the main field of study.

To study this course you need to be a graduate student and have profound knowledge in one of the following languages: English/French/German/Spanish/Arabic/Russian/Japanese/Chinese. An individual assessment of eligibility will be made based on your academic records. Examination is done in English and in your main study field (one of the above mentioned languages). The language of instruction is English but you will have some course literature in your main study field (language). Please see the syllabus for more information.
