Summary
The course provides more advanced theoretical knowledge in Somali linguistics, focusing on particularly interesting areas within phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
About
As background, a general linguistic text on each phenomenon is read, after which the situation in Somali is examined through the study of scholarly articles and important reference works about the language. Students independently prepare short comparative overviews of different prevailing approaches to the issues studied. These overviews are presented and discussed in seminars throughout the course.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
To be admitted to the course, students must have completed the course SO1221 or the equivalent.
Exception is made to the requirement for Swedish as a general entry requirement
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
