German Post-War Literature I
Summary
You study German-language postwar literature with a focus on politicization, subjectivity, and migration literature, while developing your skills in critical analysis and discussion in German at an advanced level.
About
In this course, we examine the history of German-language literature from 1945 to the present day. The focus lies on key developments and movements within this period, such as early postwar literature, the politicization of literature, New Subjectivity, postmodernism, Wende literature, and migration literature. These are illustrated through a selection of canonized works in literary history.
Through seminars and independent assignments, you will practice close reading, reflection, and critical analysis of literary texts, as well as situating them within broader historical and cultural contexts.
NB: The course has scheduled online classes when given as a distance course.
