HRM Master Students after Graduation

In 2025, the university conducted an alumni survey aimed at students formerly enrolled in the Master Programme in Strategic Human Resource Management and Labour Relations. The purpose was to find out how former students evaluate their education, and also to see what kind of jobs they found after graduation.

The survey targeted alumni who were enrolled between 2012–2023. A total of 26 answered.

Where do the HRM Alumni Work?

When responding to the survey, 78 % of the alumni were employed. Most of them worked in private services or private manufacturing, and the majority were employed in Sweden.

Common Job Titles

The roles reported show a broad range of HR and organisation-related positions, such as:

  • HR Manager
  • HR Specialist
  • HR Business Partner
  • Global Mobility Process Specialist
  • HR Advisor
  • People & Culture Manager
  • Specialist in Talent & Development
  • Analyst
  • Executive Research Consultant

Overall, 67 percent stated that their current work was related to the programme's competence area.

What is Their Work About?

When asked what they do at work, the most common tasks were:

  • management support and leadership development
  • investigation and evaluation
  • group and employee development, including conflict management
  • organisational development and organisational change
  • recruitment, competence supply and labour-market monitoring, as well as project development and project management

But the alumni also mentioned tasks such as operational HR, culture and safety work, administration, systems and processes, employee relations, labour law and wage formation, research, internal governance and control, risk management and strategic process development.

Among the skills they learned from the programme, they reported these as most valuable to their work:

  • Strategic thinking, business perspective, international understanding and organisational knowledge.
  • Labour-market knowledge and understanding of the roles of different labour-market actors.
  • Analytical reasoning, problem solving, communication, research methods and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of leadership, motivation and culture building, often combined with previous HR education or work experience.

Would They Recommend the Programme?

Overall, the alumni are content with their choice of studies. The alumni gave the programme an overall rating of 4.12 on a 1–5 scale, and the programme content was given a 4.

Most valuable to the alumni were the breadth of the education, the opportunities for networking within and outside the programme, as well as the strategic and international perspective – including a business perspective, environmental scanning and understanding of organising – that the programme gave them.

At the same time, values were more neutral for career choice (3.78), career opportunities (3), salary (3.17), the usefulness of the programme in the current role (3.12) and whether respondents would recommend the programme (2.94).

Overall, the results indicate that the content is valued highly, while the connection to the labour market, career outcomes and practical applicability needs to be strengthened.
