Urban freight futures in everyday life

Research project

Short description

The project investigates what “sustainable” urban freight looks like in everyday life Gothenburg. With growing e-commerce, deliveries are increasing, and cities and logistics companies ae turning to electric vehicles, cargo bikes, micro-hubs and parcel lockers to reduce emissions and noise. These solutions matter, but they can still intensify competition for street space, cycle lanes and kerbs. The study looks at how freight futures are planned and communicated, how new freight solutions show up in neighbourhoods, and how residents perceive impacts on mobility, safety, stress and access. Using interviews, surveys and observations, it maps both co-benefits and tensions. The goal is practical guidance for low-emission freight systems that also strengthen liveability and wellbeing.
