Alumni grow and develop together in the Mentorship Programme

Published

The School of Business, Economics and Law’s mentorship programme for alumni is an exclusive opportunity for mentees and mentors to focus on personal and professional development. Thanks to strong engagement from alumni and support from the alumni association Handels Vänner, meaningful relationships are formed between former students.

Since 2018, alumni with varying levels of professional and personal life experience have had the opportunity to meet as mentors and mentees to discuss and share professional experiences. The mentorship programme was initiated by the independent alumni association Handels Vänner and has been run in collaboration with the School of Business, Economics and Law since the turn of the year.

Mentorship that fosters growth

I årets program deltar 15 mentorpar. Ett av dessa är mentorn Linda Sjödell som är HR Director på Essity och adepten Alva Lindqvist som är Consultant Manager på PS Partner:

“It feels great to share my experiences and give my mentee the opportunity to discuss ideas and questions she encounters. At the same time, this is a valuable opportunity for me to develop my coaching skills and gain new perspectives. I believe I will learn a lot,” says Linda.

“Learning from an experienced mentor is a great way to gain insights into how to tackle challenges in my current role, as well as in my broader career. The mentorship programme is a wonderful opportunity for both my professional and personal development,” says Alva.

The Mentorship Programme

A programme centred on engagement

The mentorship programme for alumni is designed to create space for reflection and personal growth. It follows a structured format that not only provides mentees with valuable insights but also stimulates the mentors’ own coaching and personal learning. It is built on mutual trust and open communication between mentor and mentee.

One of the mentors is Hans Rosenhoff, who also serves on the voluntary mentorship committee – a group of seven alumni who are passionately committed to running and developing the programme.

“I wish I had had a mentor at the start of my career. Now I want to give back and contribute to someone else’s journey,” he says.

The mentorship is based on a coaching approach where the mentee is at the centre. For Hans, the conversations have been both dynamic and enriching.

“It’s inspiring and rewarding to share my experiences and reflections with driven and engaged individuals who are curious about their personal and professional development,” he says.

About the alumni mentorship programme

The mentorship programme was launched by the independent alumni association Handels Vänner in 2018. Since January 2025, it has been run in collaboration with the School of Business, Economics and Law. The programme, like Handels Vänner, is rooted in alumnus Axel Adler’s ideas about knowledge, equality, and social benefit, and builds on his vision that education and the exchange of experience can transform both individuals and societies.

The programme is free of charge and based on mutual commitment, where both mentors and mentees actively participate to foster genuine development and meaningful exchange of experience. The programme is conducted in English and runs for one year. It includes 3–5 [MH1] group meetings and 8–10 one-on-one meetings between mentor and mentee. Each pair is provided with a clear framework to help them make the most of their shared experiences and ensure a rewarding, developmental, and inspiring relationship.

To become a mentor, one should have several years of experience in their field and preferably hold a leadership role. To become a mentee, one should have at least two years of work experience following their studies at the School of Business, Economics and Law.

The next programme cycle begins in autumn 2026. Applications open in late autumn of 2025. Interested in joining as a mentee or mentor? Feel free to send an expression of interest to malin.helander@gu.se.
