9. Challenges and Changes

... as a Result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

A key feature of most religious practice in the major religious traditions is the co-presence of participants at religious services. The global pandemic has had consequences for many people and organizations and challenged the religious landscape in both the short and perhaps also the long term. Specifically, the widespread restrictions have challenged the way people and religious organizations usually do religion.

Research projects on the consequences of the pandemic are starting to emerge, and new results are being made available. The purpose of this panel is to facilitate a discussion of these consequences across projects and national boundaries. The panel invites papers that examine the consequences for religion at all levels of society, from consequences for the religious individual to the consequences of the state regulation of religion. The panel is interested in both methodological, theoretical, and empirical papers.
